DELEGATES OF INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT VISIT DHA CITY

Karachi, November 25, 2017: As part of the International Conference on Sustainable Development in Civil Engineering held at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology from November 23 to 25, 2017, delegates from across the globe paid a visit to the DHA City Karachi (DCK) project located on the Super Highway (M-9) during the conference’s concluding phase. DCK, an internationally recognized Sustainable Project, was chosen as the venue to exemplify the planning, structures, and principles of sustainability in an emerging Pakistani city of international significance.

Director of Development, Col (R) Imtiaz Ul Haq Khattak, extended a warm welcome to the distinguished delegates, hailing from renowned universities worldwide, including Turkey, Malaysia, the UK, Brazil, Thailand, and Egypt. He emphasized that DCK is a prestigious project embodying a modern, sustainable city that meets global standards for quality living. DCK boasts sustainable infrastructure designed to ensure the availability of essential utilities, including comprehensive integrated planning for infrastructure systems covering transportation, energy, water, solid waste management, landscaping, and information and communication technology (ICT). He added that DHA City is a network of mini-cities within a city, each designed with dynamic and organic shapes adjusted to the terrain.

The Consultant Resident Engineer, Brigadier (R) Sohail, elaborated that DCK has been envisioned as Pakistan’s first sustainable, green, and smart city, destined to serve as a model for future independent cities within the country and around the world. DCK’s distinguishing features include quality infrastructure, stringent safety parameters, integrated facilities for work, education, shopping, recreation, and community activities all within close proximity. He highlighted DCK’s planning as the most efficient and sustainable suburb in Pakistan, featuring efficient pedestrian, cycling, and roadway systems, including renewable energy solutions.

The visiting delegates were given a comprehensive tour of DCK, spanning its length and breadth. They lauded the vision, sustainability, and planning of DHA City, describing it as impressive and progressive in essence.
